Board & Train Programs

Multiple board and train options, individualized to your dog — running strong since 2013.

How It Works

We offer several board and train options, each built around your dog's needs and your schedule — there's more than one path, so the best way to find the right fit is to give us a call or reach out through our contact page. However your dog's program is structured, we start with an initial assessment and build an individualized training plan, with sessions held in varied settings and exposure to multiple people and other dogs. Family members attend supervised sessions to learn the methods we use, so progress carries over to home.

Every program draws from these core training curricula, layered to fit your dog's age and needs:

Puppy Start Right

  • Potty training
  • Crate training
  • Environmental socialization (sights & sounds)
  • Beginning basic manners: sit, down, impulse control, recall, loose leash walking

Canine Life Skills 1 (6 months+)

  • Sit, down, stand (hand & verbal cues)
  • Impulse control — "leave it"
  • Place / bed / stationing
  • Loose leash walking & distraction ignoring
  • Recall
  • Meet-and-greet training (no jumping)

Program Options

Homeschool for Dogs

Your dog comes to us Monday morning and goes home Friday night, for 2, 3, 4, or more weeks depending on your goals. Cost depends on length of stay.

Board & Train

  • 1 Week — focused work on one specific issue/skill
  • 2 Weeks
  • 3 Weeks
  • 1 Month or more — enough time to complete a full Puppy Start Right or Canine Life Skills program, or to work toward more specific, individualized goals for your dog

Cost depends on length of stay.

Behavioral Board & Train

We work with possessiveness, aggression (non-biting), house training problems, general poor manners, and other behavior concerns — building a plan around the specific issues your dog is facing. Length of stay and cost depend on the behavioral issue we're working through together.

Military veterans, and SAR handlers receive a 10% discount on all Board & Train programs.

Skills Transfer

For every Board & Train program, you and your dog will spend time together with us to work through skills transfer — including time here at Kawa Farms, and one or more home visits from us after your dog returns home to help those skills carry over. How many visits depends on the length of your dog's stay. This is included in your Board & Train program, not an added cost, unless you'd like additional hands-on skills work once your program is complete.
